A story that moves between war-torn Europe and an obscure POW camp in Albuquerque, New Mexico, In The Time of Madness chronicles the lives of two people from opposite sides of the globe and vastly different cultures who experienced the madness of World War II in different ways. Karl Bermann, a captive German soldier, and Francisca Mondragon, a young Hispanic war widow of Jewish descent, meet in a chile field along the Rio Grande. Francisca, who owns the farm, and Karl, a prisoner who is consigned to work on the property, are separated by both ideology and background. However, the disappearance of Francisca’s daughter brings them together in a common pursuit to find the child. The madness that follows leads to an unexpected outcome that changes their lives forever.
