Com o 'boom' da imprensa escrita privada nos anos 90, pensava-se que a Costa do Marfim tinha dado a si própria os meios para desenvolver a sua democracia nascente através do regresso de um sistema multipartidário. Mas infelizmente, mais de três décadas depois, os marfinenses continuam à procura de uma imprensa escrita privada credível, independente e responsável. Por outras palavras, pintam um quadro sombrio em que os jornalistas e os proprietários de meios de comunicação social privados não têm uma boa imprensa. Mas os jornais privados contêm as sementes da sua própria destruição e as do perigo para a nação costa-marfinense. De que serve um jornal se não tiver leitores? Esta pergunta leva a outra. Criados para consolidar e apoiar a democracia no nosso país, os jornais privados são atualmente uma séria ameaça à própria sobrevivência da democracia.
