Le tourisme développé dans les zones naturelles a connu une forte croissance. S’il n’est pas développé de manière à tenir compte de l’utilisation durable, il peut avoir des impacts irréversibles sur les environnements et sous-environnements concernés, ainsi que sur leur environnement. L’une des stratégies pour le développement du tourisme durable consiste à étudier les impacts et à déterminer la capacité de charge (support) du site, afin de limiter les impacts indésirables et irréversibles. Le tourisme devient ainsi un outil de conservation des ressources naturelles existantes sur le site. Les méthodes de capacité de charge et les études d’impact sont pour la plupart adaptées d’autres pays, avec d’autres réalités, et ne tiennent souvent pas compte des caractéristiques spécifiques du site. Le livre présente une méthode innovante sur la capacité de charge (support) touristique pour les environnements fluviaux des grands fleuves tropicaux, en tenant compte de leurs caractéristiques intrinsèques et des études d’impact ou d’impacts possibles sur les environnements fluviaux.
