A investigação atribui uma correlação direta entre o estilo de liderança e o comportamento de treino do treinador principal e o sucesso de todo o programa. Ao compreender os desejos comportamentais de que um jogador necessita para produzir um elevado nível de motivação, um treinador compreenderá melhor o jogador individual. O estudo examina as atitudes, as percepções e a motivação das jogadoras de basquetebol feminino da II Divisão em resposta aos comportamentos dos treinadores que foram exibidos nos respectivos programas. O estudo explora os comportamentos dos treinadores, os factores externos e os traços preferidos dos treinadores para descrever quais os componentes destas três categorias que contribuem para o nível mais elevado de sucesso motivacional, tal como é percebido pelas atletas dos programas.
