The hydrology and hydrological system of most river catchment areas are expected to change due to climate change. This changing water balance will make it difficult for water resource managers to meet the demands of growing populations, fragile ecosystems, farmers, ranchers, energy producers, and industries. Climate change affects rainfall patterns and the distribution of water worldwide. Reduced recharge can degrade water quality. Rising surface temperatures and extreme events can impact the extent and timing of runoff and increase evaporation. Therefore, it is important to develop rational adaptation strategies to reduce the negative impacts of climate change on water resources and ensure their sustainable development. The present study aims to understand how climate change is affecting the hydrology and water resources of the Jatayu Ganga watershed in Kumaun Himalaya. Jatayu Ganga is a major rain-fed, non-glacial tributary of the Saryu River, now declining at an alarming rate. The study’s main objectives are to study the influence of climate change on hydrological characteristics, assess water resources at micro-level units, and analyze their interrelationships.
