Les impacts négatifs de la jacinthe d’eau sont dus à ses tapis denses et impénétrables qui restreignent l’accès à l’eau.En plus de supprimer la croissance des plantes indigènes et d’affecter négativement les microbes, la jacinthe d’eau empêche la croissance et l’abondance du phytoplancton sous les grands tapis, ce qui affecte en fin de compte la pêche. En effet, les poissons se nourrissent de phytoplancton.
