Questo studio esplora l’uso della violenza teatrale da parte di Usman Ali come catalizzatore del cambiamento sociale. In un mondo segnato dalla violenza, la società pakistana è alle prese con una violenza culturale e strutturale profondamente radicata, che pregiudica i diritti fondamentali e perpetua la sofferenza. Usman Ali, noto drammaturgo pakistano, affronta questi temi attraverso le sue opere: The Guilt (2014a), The Last Metaphor (2014b) e The Odyssey (2016). Basandosi sulla sindrome triangolare della violenza diretta, strutturale e culturale di Johan Galtung e sulla teoria della violenza teatrale di Edward Bond, questa ricerca esamina la natura e la funzione della violenza nelle opere di Ali. Lo studio rivela che, radicate nella discriminazione, nell’ingiustizia, nel nepotismo, nella coscienza di classe, nell’abuso di potere e nell’ideologia, le forme di violenza interconnesse creano un circolo vizioso, privando i personaggi dei loro diritti e portandoli alla sofferenza. Tuttavia, la rappresentazione della violenza da parte di Ali non ha solo lo scopo di raffigurare la desolazione, ma anche di provocare riflessioni e ispirare cambiamenti sociali. Ponendo il pubblico in scenari estremi, Ali incoraggia l’auto-riflessione e la realizzazione del potenziale di trasformazione della società.
