Il Sudafrica ha subito una grande trasformazione politica in meno di un decennio. Un tempo isolato a livello internazionale a causa del sistema di apartheid, che è stato denunciato dalle Nazioni Unite come un crimine contro l’umanità, nel 2002 il Sudafrica era una democrazia liberale inclusiva che vantava una costituzione che era stata spesso definita una delle migliori al mondo. Partecipava attivamente a numerose organizzazioni internazionali come le Nazioni Unite, il Commonwealth e l’Unione Africana, tra le altre, ed era in prima linea negli sforzi per promuovere la democrazia nel continente e migliorare l’immagine dell’Africa attraverso il Nuovo Partenariato per lo Sviluppo dell’Africa. Alla luce dei significativi cambiamenti avvenuti dal 27 aprile 1994, quando il Sudafrica ha tenuto le sue prime elezioni aperte a tutti, questo studio ha cercato di valutare come i leader aziendali in Gran Bretagna, il più grande partner commerciale del Sudafrica all’epoca, percepissero il paese come un marchio internazionale.
