La politica sanitaria in India ha subito una forma di austerità che rende la spesa pubblica estremamente ridotta. Stando alla storia recente, l’India aveva i prezzi dei farmaci più bassi al mondo, rendendoli disponibili alla popolazione povera. Tuttavia, dopo la conclusione dei cicli di Uruguay del GATT e la formazione dell’OMC, l’India ha dovuto allineare la propria legge sui brevetti ai requisiti del TRIPS, il che significava introdurre il brevetto di prodotto invece del brevetto di processo, che fino ad allora non era consentito, mantenendo bassi i prezzi dei farmaci. La ricerca in questione tenta di discutere i vari aspetti concettuali e pratici dell’effetto del cambiamento nel regime dei brevetti in India e di come questo abbia e possa influenzare le politiche industriali e di conseguenza la disponibilità di farmaci in India, specialmente per la popolazione colpita dalla povertà. Lo studio qui riportato farà luce su come le politiche pubbliche, le strategie commerciali e il benessere si influenzino a vicenda e discuterà gli aspetti economici e politici di questa connessione. Sarebbe utile per coloro che cercano di comprendere questa connessione e le sue basi concettuali.
