Questo studio si proponeva di analizzare la Biblioteca Generale dell’UNESP / Bauru - SP, dove la struttura fisica serve solo le persone senza disabilità visive, al fine di effettuare una ristrutturazione per adattare lo spazio fisico all’intero corpo docente e studentesco, compresi gli ipovedenti presenti. Questa ricerca è stata condotta sulla base di questionari applicati a persone con qualche tipo di disabilità visiva e/o a persone che hanno a che fare quotidianamente con queste. I temi trattati sono stati: le maggiori difficoltà di mobilità e localizzazione, l’ambiente e l’ambiente circostante la biblioteca, in modo da poter individuare i problemi e riadattare l’ambiente per garantire l’inclusione. Per quanto riguarda la struttura, era necessario progettare spazi adatti alle esigenze degli utenti ipovedenti, rispettando le loro capacità e limitazioni sensoriali. A tal fine, la pianificazione spaziale e la comunicazione sono stati aspetti importanti per facilitare il processo di orientamento.
