Simone Weil (1909-1943) ha vissuto un’esistenza profondamente segnata dal sentimento di partecipazione alla sofferenza degli altri. Soprattutto, questo sentimento la legava al cristianesimo come ambito in cui trovare un orizzonte di senso per l’esperienza straziante della sofferenza, nonché come esempio che è possibile compiere un atto di compassione anche in mezzo all’estrema mancanza di radici della vita. Motivata da questo riferimento, l’autrice ha dato forma a una critica severa delle forme di segregazione e oppressione esistenti nelle religioni istituzionalizzate, che emerge come tema ricco e stimolante nelle sue riflessioni.
