La questione dell’essere dell’uomo è considerata un tema di grande attualità per la filosofia del mondo contemporaneo, poiché la conoscenza scientifica, pur essendosi estesa allo studio sistematico dell’uomo, ha fatto perdere di vista la sua essenza principale. È quindi necessario tornare alla domanda fondamentale che il filosofo Max Scheler avrebbe sottolineato nei suoi scritti antropologici: 'Che cos’è l’uomo?'. Il principio essenziale che sta alla base dell’essere dell’uomo appartiene quindi alla sfera metafisica ed è questo stesso principio che dà senso alla sua esistenza.
