I bambini e gli adolescenti debilitati dalla malattia e tagliati fuori dal loro ambiente scolastico (amici, colleghi, insegnanti e altri) hanno difficoltà a mantenere il legame con la scuola al loro ritorno, soprattutto quando sono stati immersi nell’ambiente ospedaliero per molto tempo. È importante sottolineare che la misura del tempo per lo studente-paziente non è la stessa della vita quotidiana di chi è fuori dall’ospedale. La vita trascorre lentamente per coloro che sono tagliati fuori dall’interazione sociale. Una settimana, due settimane, un mese, mesi? Non si può dire quale sia la misura, è definita dalla sensazione di esclusione di chi è in ospedale. L’intensità del tempo per il paziente studente è percepita in modo diverso, in quanto perde il contatto con la vita quotidiana, viene abbandonato e spesso, a causa della gravità della sua malattia, le visite sono limitate.
