I Can Hope: An Autobiography of Surviving Divorce, is a story that will reassure those who have divorced, or in the process of divorcing, that they are not alone. Written in three segments; the past, present, and future, it shares a story of a young woman who explores her self in order to prepare herself for a life without her husband after their divorce. Each part is separated to enhance the different aspects of this life story. Chapters begin with an expressive poem summarizing the chapter contents and reflective of the transition of the story. Part one; the past, begins with a short description of a family tree and the introduction of the story's author as an older child in a large family residing in Uintah, Utah. Using a little poetic license, the author retells accounts of her childhood, portraying her relationships with her father, mother, grandmother, and siblings. Part two; the present, focuses on the author's personal emotional and psychological struggles during the final years of her ten year marriage. Included are unedited journal entries depicting her relationship with her husband and how their marriage slowly evolves from one of hopes and dreams, to one that is destroying her desires in life. Part two ends with the dissolution of their marriage. Part three; the future, shares her initial struggle with reestablishing her life after her divorce from her husband. It expresses her trials with living with one income, to coming home alone. It also vividly accounts her fears while creating her new life. Part three ends with actual accounts of her return to dating, in the traditional and modern manner. I Can Hope: An Autobiography of Surviving Divorce is a story of survival and hope. It shares an account of an everyday person and touches the hearts of those who are wounded and struggling with their own quest for a life with love again.
