In 1956, the Kocsis family arrived in the United States via Project Safe Haven. My grandfather Matyas was 26 and his wife, Marta, 23. In tow were my father, who was 6 months old, and his brother, 3 years of age. Shortly after their arrival, they would settle down in Barberton, Ohio. My family bestowed upon me many photographs, which span from the 1920s throughout the 1970s. In this book, I’ve curated the oldest of the archives- photographs and postcards with handwritten notes. Matyas Antal Kocsis served his country as a Freedom Fighter before he and his wife and children came to the United States as refugees in 1956.
