Karl Marx (1818 - 1883) war ein deutscher Philosoph, Ökonom, Gesellschaftstheoretiker, politischer Journalist, Protagonist der Arbeiterbewegung sowie Kritiker der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft und der Religion. Zusammen mit Friedrich Engels wurde er zum einflussreichsten Theoretiker des Sozialismus und Kommunismus. Aus dem Buch: 'Man werfe einen Blick auf die geographische Gestalt Sezessias mit seinem langen Küstenstrich am Atlantischen Ozean und seinem langen Küstenstrich am Meerbusen von Mexiko. Solange die Konföderierten Kentucky und Tennessee hielten, bildete das Ganze eine große, kompakte Masse. Der Verlust dieser beiden Staaten treibt einen ungeheuren Keil in ihr Territorium, der die Staaten am nördlichen Atlantischen Ozean von den Staaten am Meerbusen von Mexiko trennt. Die direkte Straße von Virginia und den beiden Carolinas nach Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi und teilweise selbst nach Alabama führt, über Tennessee, das jetzt von den Unionisten eingenommen ist. Die einzige Straße, die, nach völliger Eroberung Tennessees durch die Union, die beiden Sektionen der Sklavenstaaten verbindet, geht über Georgia. Dies beweist, daß Georgia der Schlüssel zu Sezessia ist. Mit dem Verlust Georgias wäre die Konföderation in zwei Sektionen zerschnitten, die alle Verbindung untereinander verloren hätten. An eine Wiedereroberung Georgias durch die Sezessionisten wäre aber kaum zu denken, denn die unionistischen Streitkräfte wären in einer zentralen Position konzentriert, während ihre Gegner, in zwei Lager getrennt, kaum hinreichende Kräfte zu einem gemeinsamen Angriff aufzubieten hätten.'
