Fort Wayne is named after General Mad Anthony Wayne and became an incorporated city in 1840. Fort Wayne is Indiana’s second largest city and has historically served as a transportation and communications center for the region. The "Summit City" is also home to John Chapman, who is better known in American folklore as Johnny Appleseed.
