Des ouvriers s’attèlent à réaliser avec célérité le premier CES de la capitale de l’Aunis pour la rentrée scolaire à venir. Situé dans la ZUP de Mireuil, cet établissement du second degré prend le nom de collège Pierre Mendès France en 1985. Dans une ville à coloration radicale, son histoire est indissociable de celle de la priorité. Sa singularité vient également de son classement et de sa pérennité en éducation prioritaire depuis 1981. Ce livre offre un angle d’observation et d’analyse de la déclinaison, des réussites et des limites de cette politique à l’échelle d’une unité de base du système éducatif depuis quatre décennies.
