L’auteur trace les grandes lignes de l’histoire acadienne en cinq périodes importantes, réparties en deux tomes. Dans le premier tome, il couvre la période de 1604 à 1710. Dans ce deuxième tome, l’auteur met en lumière la période de paix avec les Britanniques ainsi que la création d’une Acadie française voisine de l’Acadie anglaise, c’est-à-dire la Nouvelle-Écosse. Finalement, les deux derniers chapitres proposent un survol de la Déportation des francophones des diverses colonies des Maritimes, soit de la préparation jusqu’au traité de Paris. À travers ce parcours historique, l’auteur vous propose des extraits de journaux et des lettres d’époque a n de mieux saisir le contexte. De plus, plusieurs rubriques enrichissent cet essai pour faciliter la compréhension de cette histoire tragique.
