O montelucaste de sódio está disponível em comprimidos orais convencionais, comprimidos para mastigar e grânulos. O montelucaste de sódio tem uma baixa biodisponibilidade e também causa dormência temporária aquando da administração oral. Tentámos ultrapassar estes problemas formulando hidrogéis à base de microesponjas de montelucaste de sódio para administração transdérmica. A administração repetida também pode ser evitada e a adesão do doente pode ser melhorada mantendo a libertação do medicamento e também diminuindo a dose. Assim, no trabalho de investigação, a técnica de formulação utilizada foi reprodutível e as formulações foram seguras e eficientes como veículos para a libertação transdérmica do fármaco durante um período de 24 horas.
