Hellen Jeffries usually daydreamed most of her working day. She dreamed of going on an adventure. Her Office work came easily to her and she was happy enough doing it, but she found it dull and mostly boring. She daydreamed of Australia. It was a place her uncle had often told her about, where the sun shone even on Christmas day as he had often told her. He had spent time there during the war and still corresponded with some Australian mates who sent him photographs of their homes and told him of their travels. The photos only served to fire Hellen’s longing to see the place. She was a pretty, twenty-year-old girl with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Despite her present boredom with everything in her life, those eyes still sparkled with a sense of humour which Showed her thirst for a more exciting life and a need to see the world.
