La coopérative en Côte d’Ivoire, longtemps considérée comme un outil de développement économique et rural et comme un instrument de consolidation de la cohésion sociale et des rapports démocratiques a longtemps eu du mal à véritablement jouer son rôle. Plusieurs tentatives de relance ont été menées par l’Etat ivoirien dans le but de la rendre plus efficace. En dépit de cela le système coopératif fait face à de nombreux dysfonctionnements. Cette étude s’inscrit dans le cadre de la compréhension du fonctionnement des coopératives en rapport avec les lois établis au sein du système coopératif. Elle contribue à montrer que la participation des coopératives dans le processus de développement des communautés rurales est un élément qui constitue à la mise en application d’une gestion déficitaire, conduisant ainsi à une différenciation sociale entre Autochtone Agni et les allochtones membres des coopératives dans la sous-préfecture d’Ayamé. L’étude s’appuie sur une recherche qualitative dans la sous-préfecture d’Ayamé en 2019. Il ressort que le rôle des coopératives et leurs histoires dans la participation aux projets de développement communautaire sont des catalyseurs qui s’imprègnent dans la perception sociale des autochtones Agni coopérateurs. Cette perception sociale oriente les acteurs sociaux dans la pratique d’une gestion contrastée qui va à l’encontre des principes et des valeurs coopératives. Le renforcement du statut dominant des coopérateurs Agni au sein des coopératives se construit en fonction du rôle attribué aux coopératives au sein du territoire.
