Ginx’s Baby: His Birth and Other Misfortunes is a satirical novel written by John Edward Jenkins and published in 1876. The book tells the story of a poor couple, Ginx and his wife, who struggle to make ends meet in Victorian England. When their baby is born, they are unable to provide for it and are forced to give it up for adoption. The novel is a commentary on the social and economic conditions of the time, highlighting the plight of the working class and the inadequacies of the welfare system. It also satirizes the hypocrisy of the upper classes and their indifference to the suffering of the poor. The book is divided into three parts, each focusing on a different aspect of Ginx’s life. The first part deals with his struggles to provide for his family, the second with his attempts to get his baby back, and the third with his eventual downfall. Jenkins uses a humorous and ironic tone throughout the novel, poking fun at the absurdities of Victorian society. The book was well-received upon its publication and is considered a classic of Victorian literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
