The main aim of the current study is to investigate gender representation in the Moroccan 9th grade EFL textbooks officially approved and used in public junior high schools from a sociolinguistic perspective. To attain this aim, the present study draws on Porecca’s 1984 criteria. Mixed-methods research that combines both quantitative and qualitative data analysis is adopted . The findings reveal that the Moroccan 9th grade EFL textbooks used in the public junior high schools are gender-biased; Male dominance is extremely apparent in both linguistic and social perspectives. This work is concluded with some limitations of the study as well as a number of suggestions for future research vis-à-vis the Moroccan 9th grade EFL textbooks.
