O doente necessita sempre de uma ação terapêutica rápida, para a qual o medicamento tem de apresentar uma libertação e uma ação rápidas. O nosso corpo tem barreiras de água, pelo que as formas de dosagem aquosas são mais adequadas, mas os medicamentos solúveis em óleo têm de enfrentar problemas de solubilidade, o que pode ser ultrapassado alterando a forma de dosagem. A 'microemulsão' é um tipo de forma de dosagem que tem uma fase oleosa e uma fase aquosa, o que é útil para resolver o problema de solubilidade dos fármacos solúveis em óleo. Ao convertê-la numa forma de gel, a sua aplicabilidade pode ser melhorada e, devido ao facto de ter um tamanho globular muito mais pequeno, o fármaco é facilmente libertado e pode ter uma ação mais rápida. Esta forma de dosagem versátil pode ser utilizada quer para ação local quer para ação sistémica. Este livro é um meio para introduzir a aplicabilidade da microemulsão-gel para fármacos solúveis em óleo.
