A epilepsia, uma doença neurológica importante, apresenta 30% de pacientes resistentes à medicação, necessitando de cirurgia, cujo sucesso depende da localização precisa da zona epileptogénica por EEG. No entanto, este sinal é afetado por artefactos e a sua modelização continua a ser complexa. Este trabalho estabelece as bases para a utilização da inteligência artificial, em particular das máquinas de vectores de suporte (SVM), para a deteção de crises. Organizado em três capítulos, apresenta a aprendizagem artificial, as SVM (robustas, interpretáveis, eficientes) e as caraterísticas específicas do sinal EEG epilético. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estabelecer as bases conceptuais e metodológicas necessárias para o estudo das crises epilépticas com recurso à inteligência artificial, com particular incidência nas Máquinas de Vectores de Suporte (SVMs).
