Das Buch ist eine Diplomarbeit über Fruchtfliegen. Fruchtfliegen sind in Burundi selbst unter Obstbauern nicht sehr bekannt. Leider sind Schäden durch Fruchtfliegen an vielen Orten, an denen Obst angebaut wird, zu beobachten. Darüber hinaus sind einige exotische Arten wie Bactrocera dorsalis und Zeugodacus cucurbitae nun auf burundischem Gebiet präsent. Dieses Buch ist das Ergebnis einer Untersuchung, die in der westlichen Region von Burundi durchgeführt wurde, um eine Bestandsaufnahme der in diesem Teil von Burundi vorkommenden Fruchtfliegen zu erstellen. Im Rahmen dieser Untersuchung wurden 18 Arten von Fruchtfliegen identifiziert. Sieben dieser Arten wurden in Burundi neu identifiziert.
