Early last century just before and between the two Great World Wars, thousands of young men made their way to Australia in search of a better life. One of those men, Spiros Kiriakou Litsis, Spiro Litchen in English, left Epirus in Northern Greece first going to America, and then later to Australia, and through years of hard work he created a business, and a family and lived a much better life than would have been possible in his country of birth. Though Spiro’s story is no more remarkable than many other similar stories, it is however unique. Each and every one of them is unique. Every one of these migrants ought to be remembered because individually and collectively their contributions have made this country into the one we love today.
