Este libro analiza la relación entre la formación política, los sistemas políticos contemporáneos y la construcción de ciudadanía crítica en estudiantes universitarios de Buenaventura, Colombia. La investigación parte de la necesidad de comprender cómo los jóvenes interpretan la democracia, el Estado, la participación ciudadana y las problemáticas sociales que caracterizan a las democracias latinoamericanas, especialmente en territorios marcados por la desigualdad, la exclusión y la violencia. La obra sostiene que la educación superior desempeña un papel fundamental en la formación de ciudadanos críticos, participativos y comprometidos con la transformación social. Desde esta perspectiva, la universidad no solo debe transmitir conocimientos académicos, sino también promover valores democráticos, pensamiento crítico, responsabilidad social y participación ciudadana.
