Dem Kindergarten wird bei der Förderung von Kindern mit Migrationshintergrund allgemein eine zentrale Bedeutung zugeschrieben. Durch frühzeitige pädagogische Angebote und Maßnahmen soll er dazu beitragen, Kinder zugewanderter Familien in ihren Bildungs- und Integrationsprozessen zu unterstützen. Thilo Schmidt untersucht auf der Grundlage von drei zentralen migrationspädagogischen Förderansätzen, welche Ziele und Maßnahmen zur Förderung von Kindern mit Migrationshintergrund in Kindergärten verfolgt bzw. umgesetzt werden und in welchem Verhältnis diese Ziele und Maßnahmen zueinander und zu spezifischen Rahmenbedingungen der pädagogischen Arbeit in Kindergärten stehen. Die Daten wurden über eine standardisierte postalische Befragung von Kindergartenleiterinnen in Bayern erhoben. Die statistische Auswertung der Daten erfolgte über multivariate Analyseverfahren.
