Innovationsfähigkeit ist ein strategischer Faktor zur Stärkung der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und der Produktionsleistung der metallverarbeitenden Unternehmen in Tungurahua - einem Sektor, der von KMU dominiert wird, die ihre Innovationen auf Prozessverbesserung, Ressourcenoptimierung und technologische Anpassung ausrichten. Die Theorie belegt einen direkten Zusammenhang zwischen Innovation und Produktivität und hebt die Prozessinnovation als Schlüsselelement der Unternehmensleistung hervor. Das institutionelle Umfeld und die öffentliche Politik wirken sich durch finanzielle Anreize, Fortbildung und technische Unterstützung aus. Die Studie verfolgte einen quantitativen, deskriptiven und feldbasierten Ansatz mit nicht-experimentellem Design und korrelativem Ansatz. Ein Fragebogen wurde bei 14 beim SRI (C292001) registrierten Unternehmen durchgeführt. Der Cronbach-Alpha-Koeffizient (0,965) bestätigte eine hohe Korrelation zwischen den Variablen. Die Einführung von Technologien der Industrie 4.0 - Automatisierung, Robotik, additive Fertigung, Digitalisierung und digitale Zwillinge - stellt in Verbindung mit F&E&I-Aktivitäten eine entscheidende Chance dar, den Sektor zu modernisieren und nachhaltige Wettbewerbsvorteile zu festigen.
