Brian R. Lee has been involved in the old car hobby for about 30 years, attending many different events focusing around cars during that time. He has belonged to several local car clubs, as well as the national Veteran Motor Car Club of America (VMCCA). He wrote for various car club newsletters as well as for the VMCCA quarterly magazine. Brian’s experience in writing began as a freelance writer, but quickly pushed him into newspapers after moving to Idaho. He was a reporter and editor for three Idaho newspapers during his years in Idaho. His love for cars began as a child, during which time his Uncle Ed’s greeting to him was often, “Cars and trucks and trucks and cars!” In addition to building plastic models of cars like so many other kids of that era, he also would tape paper to his basement floor and draw extensive towns on them to use for his varied collection of toy cars. Some of those toy cars he still owns today. Having read many books and magazines on old cars, he noticed no one has really touched on the subject of how the hobby has evolved. While many were involved in the hobby before him, he felt well qualified to tell of the changes and great growth he has seen in the hobby for the many years he has been participating in it. He has also been able to touch on the years that go before his age from having talked with ordinary car collectors who were there before Brian. Brian has also been an avid photographer since his high school years, and many of his subjects have been old cars at car shows. A small portion of his vast collection of car photos is included in this book. Unlike the advertising photos or “professional” photos that rid the car of surrounding scenes, most of Brian’s photos will show the cars in the setting of car shows and car cruises, the mainstay of the hobby. He hopes his observations and the cars he has captured on film will provide enjoyment to those who read “For The Love of Cars.”
