Cet ouvrage évalue l’efficacité des régimes de change adoptés par le Maroc et analyse la capacité du dirham à absorber les chocs extérieurs. Il propose un regard critique sur les choix des autorités monétaires, qui, bien que contribuant significativement à la stabilité du taux de change et à l’atténuation des répercussions des chocs extérieurs, font face à des déséquilibres structurels persistants, tels qu’une balance commerciale déficitaire, un déficit budgétaire élevé et une dette extérieure importante. L’analyse invite à considérer la transition vers un régime de change plus flexible, s’inspirant des recommandations du FMI et des expériences d’autres pays ayant des caractéristiques économiques similaires. Sur le plan théorique, il est démontré que le régime de change en vigueur jusqu’à la fin de 2014 reste inadapté aux évolutions de l’économie marocaine. Par ailleurs, les risques associés à une plus grande flexibilité, notamment en termes de vulnérabilité aux chocs économiques et de diversification limitée, apparaissent gérables.
