The topic addressed in the book Les personnages féminins dans les œuvres choisies d’Amélie Nothomb is the Nothombian heroine. We seek to highlight her distinctive nature and main characteristics in order to introduce this renowned Belgian writer to readers interested in French-language literature. This work therefore consists of an analysis of the female characters, focusing primarily on their common traits but also on their differences. In this way, we clarify how women are represented in the work of Amélie Nothomb, an author deeply influenced by her life in the Far East. We present the reader with five selected works: Les Combustibles, Attentat, Stupeur et tremblements, Robert des noms propres, and Antéchrista. We seek to identify the author’s reflection in her work. We ask whether her female characters possess Amélie Nothomb’s traits. Do they care deeply about their slimness, or are they anorexic? Are they avid readers? How do they navigate adolescence? To answer these key questions, we will develop our own analysis based on Amélie Nothomb’s work.
