I diritti umani sono universali, inalienabili, indivisibili e interdipendenti e ogni persona ha il diritto di conoscerli. Questo studio ha cercato di indagare i fattori scolastici che influenzano l’educazione ai diritti umani nelle scuole secondarie di Kasarani, in Kenya. Le variabili analizzate sono state la consapevolezza dei diritti umani da parte di studenti e insegnanti, la percezione degli insegnanti, le risorse didattiche e le strategie di insegnamento. I risultati hanno mostrato che le risorse didattiche erano inadeguate e che gli insegnanti utilizzavano principalmente il metodo della lezione frontale per insegnare i diritti umani. La percezione degli insegnanti nei confronti dell’educazione ai diritti umani era positiva, anche se molti avevano una bassa autoefficacia a causa della mancanza di formazione su come insegnare l’educazione ai diritti umani. L’autore raccomanda all’amministrazione scolastica di fornire risorse didattiche adeguate, di integrare i diritti umani nelle materie obbligatorie, di organizzare corsi di formazione e di preparazione per gli insegnanti, di utilizzare risorse elettroniche e di adottare strategie didattiche incentrate sullo studente.
