Gli standard dell’OMS raccomandano una permanenza minima di 24 ore dopo un parto normale in una struttura sanitaria in Senegal. Tuttavia, quasi il 75% delle madri lascia l’ospedale materno in meno di 24 ore dopo il parto, il che è spesso attribuito a vari fattori, come la capacità limitata delle strutture sanitarie, i vincoli finanziari, l’alto costo dei farmaci e i costi aggiuntivi di alloggio, nonché i problemi di trasporto e di accessibilità.L’obiettivo generale di questo studio è determinare l’entità, le variazioni regionali e i fattori associati alla durata inadeguata della degenza dopo un parto normale negli ospedali del Senegal. A tal fine, sono stati utilizzati i dati dell’indagine demografica e sanitaria continua del 2017 e sono state applicate analisi statistiche bivariate e multivariate. I risultati indicano che il 57,70% delle donne lascia la struttura sanitaria in meno di 24 ore dopo un parto normale a livello nazionale. Inoltre, il 59,03% delle donne nelle strutture sanitarie pubbliche ha avuto una durata di degenza inadeguata.
