A sociolinguistic look into the experiences of bilingual/multilingual individuals and families in navigating language related experiences in Israel, where the language of Hebrew was revived and is now living alongside many other languages. Family language policies, language experiences, maintenance efforts, and language acquisition experiences are investigated through various methodologies including quantitative analyses of data gathered via the Internet, qualitative in depth interviews, as well as ethnographic approaches. We put together this collection of already published academic articles in order to provide a glimpse into the diverse experiences of Israel’s linguistic realities, from English speaking immigrants in possession of linguistic capital that lingua franca brings, to Israeli Arabs who speak one of two national languages of Israel as a mother tongue but whose experiences within Israel are complex, to the experiences of Ethiopian immigrants and speakers of arguably low-status language of Amharic.
