O estudo procura compreender os factores que influenciam o grau de utilização da kitchenette, em relação ao sistema Pay As You Eat (PAYE). A kitchenette como serviço alternativo para os estudantes do sistema PAYE é um estudo realizado na Universidade Egerton em Nakuru, Campus de Njoro, Quénia. O objetivo é harmonizar os desafios que os estudantes enfrentam com as instalações e oferecer à administração da universidade uma visão dos problemas, juntamente com possíveis soluções. A atual população estudantil sobrecarregou as instalações, resultando em filas de espera para utilizar as comodidades, com alguns estudantes a recorrerem a cozinhar a partir dos seus quartos. Isto não só é contra as regras, como também coloca os estudantes em risco se não forem vigiados.
