Esta investigação quantitativa transversal foi conduzida para descobrir os factores que poderiam ser atribuídos às notas médias e abaixo da média dos técnicos de enfermagem obstétrica na prática clínica de enfermagem obstétrica e médico-cirúrgica em três faculdades de enfermagem e obstetrícia (Malawi College of Health Sciences-Zomba campus, St Luke e St Joseph colleges of nursing and midwifery) no Malawi. Os educadores de enfermagem e obstetrícia ficaram surpreendidos e preocupados com as notas clínicas insatisfatórias dos estudantes em comparação com as suas notas na parte teórica da sua formação. Prevê-se que os resultados deste estudo possam ser utilizados para travar o fraco desempenho clínico dos estudantes de enfermagem e de enfermagem obstétrica, de modo a produzir enfermeiras-parteiras competentes e habilidosas, aptas a integrar o sistema de prestação de cuidados de saúde e a melhorar o estado de saúde da população do Malawi.
