Markus Koch kann in dieser wissenschaftlichen Studie die bisher nur analytisch betrachtete Relevanz des Feuerstegvolumens erstmals experimentell nachweisen. Dabei kann er den analytischen Ansatz zur Berechnung der Wandwärmeströme im Feuersteg nach Bargende/Heinle experimentell validieren. Dies wird durch umfangreiche Sondermesstechnik im Feuersteg und in den Brennraumrandbereichen ermöglicht. Somit steht erstmals eine zeitlich hochaufgelöste Oberflächentemperaturverteilung über das Feuerstegvolumen für den gesamten Betriebsbereich, mehrere Brennverfahren und auch die klopfende Verbrennung zur Verfügung. Darüber hinaus kann dies auch durch die Variation der Turbulenz und der Kolbengeometrie nachgewiesen werden. Als Abschluss der experimentellen Untersuchungen können unter stark klopfenden Bedingungen erstmals Temperaturgradienten über 500.000 K/s im Brennraumrandbereich gemessen werden.
