L’agriculture est la principale force motrice de l’économie indienne. Il est également vrai qu’environ 70 % de notre population totale dépend d’activités liées à l’agriculture. Environ 85 % des agriculteurs indiens sont marginaux et de petite taille, c’est-à-dire qu’ils disposent de moins de 2 ha de terres pour leur activité agricole (enquête sur l’économie, 2002). L’agriculture occupe une place importante dans l’économie indienne et la principale force de travail est la main-d’œuvre humaine. Le tableau 1.1 présente la dynamique de la population des travailleurs agricoles indiens et il a été estimé qu’en 2050, la population des travailleurs agricoles sera d’environ 202 millions de personnes, dont 121 femmes et 81 hommes. Le mot ERGONOMIQUE est dérivé de deux mots grecs : ERGO (signifie travail) et NOM : L’ergonomie est l’étude scientifique des relations entre l’homme et la machine et l’environnement de travail.
