Les plantes médicinales sont plus populaires pour le traitement de nombreuses maladies en raison de la croyance populaire selon laquelle la médecine verte est sûre, facilement disponible et a moins d’effets secondaires. Parfois, l’extrait brut de plantes médicinales est plus biologiquement actif que les composés isolés en raison de leurs effets synergiques. Les espèces réactives de l’oxygène (ERO) endommagent l’ADN cellulaire et jouent un rôle important dans des processus tels que la mutagenèse, la carcinogenèse et le vieillissement. Les antioxydants sont connus pour leurs propriétés antimutagènes et anticancérigènes. La consommation régulière d’antioxydants naturels a la capacité de protéger les organismes et les cellules de l’oxydation. Les plantes indigènes constituent également une riche source d’antioxydants connus pour leur rôle très important dans la protection contre diverses maladies. Compte tenu de la grande valeur médicinale et de la teneur élevée en polyphénols et en flavonoïdes des plantes indigènes, la présente étude a été planifiée pour étudier l’effet antigénotoxique de l’extrait méthanolique des fruits de Lagenaria siceraria, de Desmodium gangeticum (partie aérienne) et de Leucas aspera (partie aérienne).
