L’étude s’est concentrée sur l’évaluation des CAP sur la couverture vaccinale des nourrissons et des mères enceintes en Somalie, en particulier à Mogadiscio, afin de contribuer à la compréhension des facteurs sociodémographiques influençant l’immunisation des enfants et des mères. L’enquête visait spécifiquement à déterminer dans quelle mesure la couverture vaccinale du Programme élargi de vaccination (PEV) et la supplémentation en vitamine A chez les enfants âgés de moins de cinq ans, la couverture vaccinale à l’anatoxine tétanique (TT) chez les mères d’enfants âgés de 0 à 5 ans, pour la protection de leurs bébés contre le tétanos néonatal, ainsi qu’à déterminer les raisons pour lesquelles les enfants et les femmes ciblés n’étaient pas vaccinés. La couverture vaccinale en Somalie est en baisse depuis plusieurs années et même lorsque la couverture est bonne, il est difficile d’atteindre les enfants qui ne sont pas encore vaccinés. Il était donc urgent de trouver des moyens d’augmenter la couverture vaccinale et, en particulier, d’encourager les parents à faire vacciner leurs enfants. Pour permettre aux décideurs politiques et aux travailleurs de la santé de bien planifier et de cibler les facteurs spécifiques qui affectent le succès du programme selon les résultats de ce travail.
