Le champ de South Pars / North Dome est un champ de gaz naturel condensé situé dans le golfe Persique. Il s’agit du plus grand champ gazier au monde, partagé entre l’Iran et le Qatar. Découvert en 1990, ce champ est situé à environ 100 km au large des côtes iraniennes dans le golfe Persique et s’étend jusqu’au pays voisin, le Qatar, où il est connu sous le nom de North Field. Le champ South Pars est constitué de carbonates du Permien supérieur Dalan et du Trias inférieur Kangan , et les schistes sombres du Silurien précoce sont identifiés comme la principale roche mère. Selon l’Agence internationale de l’énergie (AIE), le gisement contient environ 1 800 billions de pieds cubes (51 billions de mètres cubes) de gaz naturel in situ et quelque 50 milliards de barils (7,9 milliards de mètres cubes) de condensats de gaz naturel.
