La connaissance de la planification des cours est l’un des domaines naissants, qui est moins développé que d’autres domaines scientifiques et qui nécessite des recherches dans le sens de la croissance et du développement ; bien que de nombreux efforts aient été faits pour développer ce domaine de connaissance. Parmi ces efforts, on peut citer les travaux de Harvey, qui ont été proposés dans le cadre de l’étude du curriculum. Cette approche est basée sur l’étude des 'processus cognitifs'. Cela signifie que dans le programme d’études, il convient de prêter attention aux 'compétences cognitives et pratiques' afin que les étudiants puissent les utiliser dans leurs domaines intellectuels et scientifiques. Selon ce point de vue, la croissance et le développement des processus cognitifs est l’une des principales tâches de l’école. Par conséquent, les fonctions de l’école (métacognition) et la fourniture de 'l’apprentissage de la manière d’apprendre' comprennent l’aide aux étudiants avec les opportunités nécessaires pour renforcer l’ensemble des capacités intellectuelles des étudiants.
