La détection des visages est une composante fondamentale de la vision par ordinateur, un domaine de l’intelligence artificielle (IA) qui vise à permettre aux machines de comprendre et d’interpréter des données visuelles. De ce fait, la vision par ordinateur, en tant que lien entre les logiciels et le monde visuel qui nous entoure, se concentre sur la reconnaissance et l’interprétation des objets et des environnements à partir de données visuelles. Par exemple, il peut s’agir de déterminer un fruit par sa couleur, sa forme et sa taille. Bien que cette tâche soit instinctive pour l’humain, pour un ordinateur, celle-ci nécessitera un processus complexe d’acquisition de données, de traitement, d’apprentissage, et d’inférence à l’aide d’algorithmes sophistiqués.
