As células T são cruciais para a resposta imunitária. Elas são ativadas quando o TCR reconhece invasores estranhos nas moléculas MHC. A ativação das células T está associada às fosfatidilinositol (PtdIns) 4-quinasas β do tipo II. As PtdIns 4-quinasas do tipo II desempenham um papel na patogenicidade microbiana e na sinalização neuronal. Portanto, a compreensão da função das PtdIns 4-quinases do tipo II, seus reguladores e eventos de sinalização pode ajudar no desenvolvimento de medicamentos imunomoduladores e, possivelmente, no tratamento da metástase do cancro.
