Este estudo, realizado no matadouro público de Masina/Petro-Congo durante o ano letivo 2020-2021, com recolha de dados no terreno entre 10 de dezembro de 2021 e 20 de agosto de 2022, é um estudo das condições ambientais e higiénicas das actividades realizadas no matadouro público de Masina, com vista a propor soluções eficazes para reduzir os riscos e as consequências. Para chegar aos resultados, cujo extrato é apresentado a seguir, utilizámos o método de observação direta, caracterizado por uma série de inquéritos no terreno para definir os termos do estudo. Este método baseou-se na documentação e nos inquéritos como técnicas de base. As actividades do matadouro público de Masina incluem a receção do gado, o seu abate e a sua distribuição após a desmancha. Não é visível neste local qualquer sistema de gestão de resíduos sólidos ou líquidos que respeite as normas ambientais e de higiene, o que suscita preocupações quanto à proteção do ambiente e à preservação da saúde humana.
