O cancro cervico-uterino (CaCu) é uma doença multifatorial que se dissemina mais profundamente no colo do útero e é a principal neoplasia associada ao papilomavírus humano (HPV). As lesões intra-epiteliais escamosas de baixo grau (LSIL) e as lesões intra-epiteliais escamosas de alto grau (HSIL) são displasias pré-cancerosas que progridem para o CaCu. A fosforilação é uma MPP que desempenha um papel importante na célula, sua principal função é ativar e inativar proteínas, onde muitas dessas proteínas estão envolvidas na divisão celular, proliferação, morte celular, apoptose, entre outras. Os aminoácidos que sofrem modificação por fosforilação são as serinas, treoninas e tirosinas. Verificou-se que as alterações nos estados de fosforilação dos resíduos de tirosina estão intimamente relacionadas com a formação de tumores e malignidade. Tanto quanto sabemos, as alterações na fosforilação dos resíduos de serina no cancro, especificamente no CaCu e nas lesões precursoras, não foram estudadas. Neste trabalho, detectámos o estado de fosforilação de proteínas em resíduos de serina, de acordo com o grau de lesão por infeção por HPV.
