’Síntesis del reinado de Carlos IV. Veinte años que fueron cruciales para la Historia de España. Los que transcurren desde 1789 hasta 1808 fueron tiempos también críticos. Por ello es preciso insistir en lo que supusieron para la economía, para los cambios en los códigos de valores (o desvalores) sociales, para una Ilustración que llegó a posiciones avanzadas que no se lograron en tiempos de Carlos III, para la religiosidad, para los comportamientos y mentalidades colectivos. Casi todo el reinado, estuvo condicionado por las relaciones internacionales. Y como en tantos otros aspectos, también en la política internacional Carlos IV fue heredero de las directrices de su padre. 10
